L          Lesbian: a woman attracted to other women

G         Gay: a man who is attracted to other men or men in general who identify as homosexuals

B         Bisexual: someone attracted to both men and women

T          Transgender: someone who identifies as a different gender from that which has been recorded on their birth certificate by their doctor

Q         Queer, originally used as a hate term, is now being reclaimed by some, while others do not like it. An individual can use it to make a political statement, to indicate that they do not identify with "binaries" (e.g. male vs female, homosexual vs straight) or to indicate they do not want to be defined only by their sexual orientation

Q         Questioning: someone who is still exploring their sexuality or gender identity.

I           Intersex is a term used to describe a person whose body is not definitively male or female. For example, their chromosomes may not be XX or XY, or their genitals or reproductive organs may not be "standard."

A         Allies are straight people who support people in the LGBTQQIAAP2S community. An ally can help to create a safe space for LGBTQQIAAP2S people and can help to spread awareness and understanding of different sexual orientations and gender identities. They can also speak up against discrimination and violence towards the LGBTQQIAAP2S community.

A         Asexuals: people who are not sexually attracted to any gender

P          Pansexual is someone who is attracted to people regardless of their gender and who may also be fluid in terms of their sexual identity or gender as well

2S        Two-spirit is an umbrella term some Indigenous people use on Turtle Island (North America) to refer to gender-variant individuals. Only Indigenous people should use this term.
